Project management knowledge areas describe key project management competencies. There are four core knowledge areas, four facilitating knowledge areas and integration management.
Core knowledge areas of project management
- Scope management: defining and managing work required to complete the project
- Time management: estimating time required to complete the project and scheduling work
- Cost management: preparing and managing budget for the project
- Quality management: ensuring the product of the project is satisfied its requirements
Facilitating knowledge areas of project management
- Human resource management: effective use of people in the project
- Communications management: generating, gathering, disseminating, and storing project information
- Risk management: identifying, analyzing, and responding to risks
- Procurement management: acquiring or procuring goods and services from outside the project
